I sincerely pose an open ended question to you which I have struggled with how to navigate for decades:
How to best minimize a few nasty Underhill town officials and outdoor recreationalists without any respect for landowners ruining things for everyone else?

When I bought the land of my dreams to build my home on in 2002 I consciously chose not to post my property. Multiple problems over many years caused me to post my property (other than the small portion I permit most members of the public to walk and/or drive on which is outside of the duly laid out TH-26 corridor due to protections by the Vermont Landowner Protection Act).

When I first chose to post my property I simultaneously reached out to respectful individuals that had never been a bother to offer my permission to respectful enjoyment of my property in ways that were compatible with my personal uses, privacy at home and the environment.

Any permission I may choose to grant respectful individuals to use either the segment of TH-26 abutting my private property which was discontinued as a town highway against my wishes, or any other portion of my land, does not establish any right to ongoing use in the future.

I will never abide frequent confrontations and major disruption of daily life on my private property by disrespectful individuals or groups of any size. I will also never abide town officials willfully breaking promises to residents or abusing governmental authority to "rescind" reasonable access and privacy at my home.

Despite recognizing there are many respectful cross country skiers and bicyclists, the malicious town officials which are members of these two interest groups have caused me far too many problems to be welcoming of those groups at this time.

In short, I much prefer when people can simply respect my boundaries, which is critical to healthy interpersonal relationships in general. I will also deal with trespassers appropriately and please don't mistake my kindness for weakness...

Thank you for taking the time to write, I will get back to you as soon as I am able. Best regards, David Demarest

Because of my gratitude for the strong voter support I received in both 2010 and 2020 on duly submitted petitions which Dan Steinbauer (and his fellow selectboard members of 2010 and 2020) obstinately circumvented, I personally welcome respectful travel by foot, snowshoe, motorcycle, and high-ground clearance motor vehicles over the discontinued segment of TH26/Dump Rd/New Road/Crane Brook Trail/Fuller Road road.

I also appreciate anyone donating 4" minus stone and/or helping with the permitting and/or installation of a replacement culvert or bridge suitable for ALL reasonable past public and private uses to co-exist.
